A new container terminal built by Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line), PT. Pelabuhan Indonesia II (IPC), Mitsui and PSA International (PSA) has commenced commercial operations at Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The new terminal will be operated by the newly established company PT New Priok Container Terminal One, a joint venture founded by IPC, Mitsui, PSA and NYK Line to construct and manage the terminal.

The container terminal is expected to have an annual handling capacity of approximately 1.5 million TEUs. The terminal has an overall berth length of 850 meters and a 16-meter draft and is capable of handling mega container ships.

Back in December 2014, the companies teamed up to build the new terminal due to a rapid increase in container traffic in Indonesia.

Jakarta’s Tanjung Priok Port, being the largest port in the country, handles the majority of Indonesia’s international container traffic.

The new terminal is a part of the Indonesia Port Corporations’ (IPC) expansion project which includes the construction of seven terminals and two product terminals by 2023. With the new terminals, the port will have the capacity to handle 18 million TEUs annually.
