Bimas Baharkam of Indonesian National Police Department mentioned that they need to have maritime-sector related training module of Security Management System (SMP). “We need to have a module for the training of maritime sector security management system, what we already have today is for banking, general office, tourism, the one focusing on the maritime field is also needed to be developed,” said Brigadier General (Pol) Hengky Kaluara the Director of Bimas of Baharkam Polri. This desire came forward at the event of SMP presentation to the BKI’s Directors and officials at BKI Head Office on 13 March 2015.

“We need to create SMP training module relating to maritime sector to complement the existing modules, we will ask BKI then as a trainer and the information source,” said Director of Bimas of Baharkam Polri after receiving information relating with the scope, implementation and the audit practice of ISPS Code which is already conducted by BKI for long. “It is also necessary to have maritime sector knowledge security personnel training for the level of Gada Pratama, Gada Madya, and Gada Utama,” he added.

BKI’s President Director Rudiyanto in that occasion explained that BKI will soon establish the BKI Academy which is aimed to become professional training center either for internal or external needs. “Later in the future it may possible for BKI to organize trainings for maritime security personnel, for the Gada Pratama level at first, and this can be managed under BKI Academy,” said Rudiyanto.

Security Management System (SMP) is set in the Indonesian Police Chief of Staff Regulation number 24 of 2007 which states that the SMP shall be applied to organizations, companies and/or agencies/ government organizations in the jurisdiction of the Republic of Indonesia. In order to ensure the supervision and control of the application of SMP Police Department will carry out audit activities that include: documents complementary audit, compliance audit, and surveillance audit. Documents complementary audit are documents reviewing activities to ensure that all administrative documents and regulatory requirements have been met by the organization, company or institution/agency prior to the compliance audit by the SMP auditor. Compliance audit should be carried out at least once in three three-year validity period of the certificate. The SMP surveillance audit should be conducted at least once in a year during the certification period.

Only national independent audit firm who has officially appointed by the Indonesian Police Chief of Staff can do the SMP audit. **
