Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia is preparing to receive more ship statutory duty delegation from the government and paired with Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Pelayaran (STIP) Jakarta to develop surveyor training program. The  Memorandum of Understanding betwee two institutions was signed by BKI President Director Rudiyanto and the STIP Chairman Arifin Sunardjo on 16 March 2015 in Bogor.

“To be able to perform effectively on statutory duty inspection I am sure that BKI will need personnel with nautical, navigation and also technical background. We have personnel with all those qualification and we are ready to assist BKI,” said Arifin Sunardjo. “STIP is ready to assist from the facility and human resources side.”

Arifin Sunardjo who was previously having position as Director of Shipping and Seafarers at the Ministry of Transportation has been long familiar with BKI so he understood about some constraints relating to BKI. “We hope with  more statutory duty assigned to BKI, BKI can be accepted as IACS member sooner,” said Arifin.

BKI President Director Rudiyanto in his speech explained that this signing ceremony is a good start to increase cooperation between BKI and STIP. “Hopefully through this cooperation we’ll be able to match and assist each other since there are facilities and instructors which BKI doesn’t have and on the other hand BKI has knowledge and experience that may be worthwhile to be shared,” said Rudiyanto.

BKI held statutory training for its senior surveyors at Arch Hotel Bogor from 16 to 19 March 2015. On 20 March the participants are scheduled to visit STIP Jakarta in Marunda to learn further using dedicated facilities and having  audit simulation for safety equipment, radio, etc. **
