South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has won a KRW 5.3 trillion (USD 4.7 billion) contract to build three floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facilities in Europe for Shell Gas & Power Developments B.V.

The contract signed today covers only a part of production costs, according to SHI.

A basic FEED (Front-End Engineering and Design) contract for topsides for the FLNGs will be signed in the second half of 2016.

The three FLNGs are expected to be delivered by November 2023.

This order, along with yesterday’s USD 1 billion order for the construction of oil platforms for Statoil’s Johan Sverdrup project in the North Sea, amounts to nearly 50% of combined sales SHI recorded in 2014.
