ESP Code 2011 amendment offered by IACS to align in associated with RO and IACS has been reviewing ESP Code 2011 (resolution A.1049 (27)) in order to examine the use of terms related to RO. ESP Code 2011 has been transferred from IACS Z10 and is based on the requirements of SOLAS regulation XI-1/2.

Ammendment ESP Code 2011

  1. ESP to ship Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers (ESP Code 2011) (resolution A.1049 (27)), the measurement of the thickness of the hull construction if it is not done by RO acting on behalf of the Administration, it should be witnessed by a class surveyor. The presence of the surveyor should be recorded. This also applies to thickness measurements made during the ships on the way. Surveyors have to control and supervise the process.
  2. ESP Code 2011 applies to ships constructed before 1 July 2002: The modulus of the hull cross section is calculated using the structural thickness measured, renewed or reinforced, while the last Safcon renewal survey conducted after the ship reaches the age of 10 years and to meet the criteria required by Administration or class and that the actual modulus, Zact, not less than the minimum modulus of the ship, Zmc.
  3. Zact must meet one of the following conditions:
    1. For ships constructed before 1 July 2002, Zact must meet the criteria for minimum modulus Zmc of ships required by Administration or class, provided that Zact is not less than the limit of Zmc
    2. If any damage is found on the ship's structure and localized that do not affect the structural integrity of the vessel (such as a small hole), consideration may be given by class surveyor for temporary repairs in order to restore the integrity of the watertightness or weathertight after evaluation of surrounding structures and recommended by a certain time limit for complete the permanent repair and maintain the validity of the SAFCON certification.
