Robbers boarded a product tanker owned by Danish Maersk Tankers and stole equipment while the vessel was at anchor off Indonesia, ReCAAP ISC informed.

The incident aboard the 2013-built Maersk Aegean took place while the ship was anchored off Labuk Gaung, Inner Anchorage in Dumai in the morning hours of March 12.

A portable welding machine, an electric drill and an electric hacksaw were found missing from the engine room workshop. Upon checking, the emergency access to the steering flat was found to be opened, ReCAAP said.

A search was conducted, but no person was found.

The incident was reported to the port authority and the ship agent, according to ReCAAP.

“We can confirm that Maersk Aegean has been exposed to pilferage while at anchor off Indonesia. We are cooperating fully with the authorities in their ongoing investigation,” a spokeswoman from Maersk Tankers told World Maritime News.
