BKI is ready to accept additional statutory assignment from the Indonesian Government. That circumstance was revealed in the BKI’s senior surveyor in house training held at the Arch Hotel Bogor on 16 – 19 March 2015.

“BKI should be ready if soon the Government gives more statutory assignment. Therefore training like this is expected able to provide necessary knowledge needed by BKI’s surveyor to perform statutory inspection as what has been done by the Directorate General of Sea Transportation official,” said BKI President Director Rudiyanto in his opening speech.

“In relation with this addition of statutory assignment, we will also accommodate about 700 Sea Transportation Marine Inspector, who usually has been carried out the inspection process prior to the issuance of the statutory certificate. As is known, the Government delegate statutory assignment to BKI in two ways, fully authorized which is included the performance of assessment/audit up to the issuance of the permanent certificate and partially authorized which is included the performance of assessment/audit up to the issuance of temporary certificate; with the permanent certificate will be issued by the Directorate General of Sea-Communication of the Ministry of Transportation.

The statutory assignment fully authorized to BKI is for the survey and the issuance of Load Line Certificate. While for the certification of cargo gear equipment for the issuance of the Cargo Gear Book, ISM Code certification for the ship operation safety management system, ISPS Code certification for the security management system of ship and port, tanker Condition Assessment Scheme (CAS) certification and others, are still partially authorized.

Minister of Transportation Ignatius Jonan in the occasion met with BKI Board of Director has committed to handed over more statutory assignment to BKI to increase BKI’s capability and service.  "The Minister gave BKI three months period to prepare," explainded Rudiyanto.

The addition of statutory duty assigned to BKI was also demanded by the national shipping industry for long, expecting the synchronization of schedule for the survey performed by BKI’s surveyor and Directorate General of Sea Transportation's Marine Inspector. Moreover more statutory assignment delegated by the Government is also one of major requirement for BKI to apply as IACS (International Association of Classification Societies) member. **
