Alphaliner is reporting Temas Line from Indonesia has paid Germany’s Gebab $6.5m for the 11-year-old 2,800 teu Larentia. The ship, now renamed Sendang Mas, becomes both the largest ship in the Temas fleet as well as the largest container vessel operating on the Indonesian cabotage trade.

“The purchase of the Larentia has likely been motivated by the appealing prices obtainable on the depressed sale & purchase market, that give regional carriers a unique opportunity to boost and modernize their fleets cheaply with large tonnage,” said Alphaliner.

Temas’s fleet now numbers 27 Indonesian-flagged boxships plus another ten 360 teu vessels being built at Lianyungang Wuzhou Shipyard in China for delivery in 2018.

Indonesia’s president, Joko Widodo, has pushed for the development of far greater maritime links across the archipelago since coming to power, something Temas is poised to benefit from.
